A Message From the Sikh Sangat Candidates for the SRS Elections

      Sikhs Chicago <sikhsofchicago@gmail.com>Sat, Mar 31, 2012 at 8:07 PM
      To: sikhsofchicago@gmail.com

      ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ।

By now, we all know what four years of Panthic Slate Raj has done to peace, unity, harmony and good-will among the community. Their arrogant, dishonest and biased behavior has led to drastic reduction in Gurudwara attendance leading to reduced revenues. Above all the Holy SRS Stage has been turned into an unholy propaganda machine to spread lies, slander and misinformation. Making bad things worse, they have already wasted more than 1000,000 dollars Guru’s Golak on court cases to cover their lies, dishonesty and fraudulent practices. How much more will be wasted is unpredictable. In the last many months an effort was made by Conflict Resolution Committee to find an amicable solution .The proposed solution was agreed upon and recanted by the Panthic Management at the last moment at least three times. In retrospect, it looks like it was just a ploy to buy more time to perpetuate their unholy raj. Sikh Sangat is not at all interested in gaining control of SRS Management. Our sincere wish and resolve is to put an end to group politics .We stand committed to this resolve today and will remain committed in future. Last Sunday, all candidates expressed willingness to make a humble beginning towards this end. S. Surinder Singh Kalra and S. Jatinder Singh Grewal were instrumental in bringing the parties together for almost three hours and an agreement was almost reached. But unfortunately, the fanatics in the Panthic Slate managed to torpedo the agreement.

Remaining true to their chameleon colors SRS Management played all tricks to prevent S. Irwinpreet Singh and S. Bhupinder Singh from becoming candidates for 2012 SRS Elections.  Only when Court ordered the Management to put their names on the ballot did the Management come to their senses and put their names on the ballot. Why these tricks? Just to rig up the upcoming elections and win it by hook or crook like 2010 elections. This year, the trickery played in 2010 will be repeated because they have created a fraudulent membership and have denied membership to hundreds of old SRS members thru their various nefarious tricks. The results can be expected. Still to give Sangat a chance to remove these fanatics from further perpetuating their evil raj in the name of the Panth, Sikh Sangat has reluctantly put up the following candidates for the upcoming electio

In spite of all the setbacks, Sikh Sangat is determined to restore dignity, civility, unity, harmony and goodwill in our holy place.Sikh Sangat and its candidates have one only one agenda for this election and that is: Election free Gurudwara. Win or lose our agenda is and will remain-Election free Gurudwara.

If you are for arrogance, deceit and dishonesty vote for the Panthic Slate: if you are for election free gurudwara where Sangat can come for peace, unity and harmony for them and the future generations vote for the Sikh Sangat Candidates who remain dedicated towards achieving goal of –Group free and Election free Gurudwara.

      Your humble sewadaars;

      For SRS Board

      1.Bhoola Gurmit Singh

       2.Brar Mahanbir Singh

      4.Hundal Bhupinder Singh

      7.Singh Irwinpreet Singh.

Their # on the Ballot is 1.2.4.7.

      For CIC

      Sangha Surinder Kaur.

Her # on the Ballot is 1. On CIC Side

PS: In such a short time it is difficult to reach and request your vote and support in person. Kindly, accept this humble written request on behalf of the above named candidates.

      ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ।

      Response from Panthic Slate
      ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ

      ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ।

The following is a clarification of the misinformation being distributed by the Sikh Sangat Candidates:

“Their arrogant, dishonest and biased behavior has led to drastic reduction in Gurudwara attendance leading to reduced revenues.”

This statement is wrong, because there has been no numerical drop in the Gurdwara membership much less the attendance to the Gurdwara Sahib.  In contrast, the Gurdwara has seen an increase in participation and presence of its Sikh Community.  There is ABSOLUTLY NO PROOF of statistical study conducted by the Sikh Sangat Candidates that can validate this claim. So how can they claim such a preposterous idea as a fact?

“they have already wasted more than 1000,000 dollars Guru’s Golak on court cases to cover their lies, dishonesty and fraudulent practices.”

This statement is even more comical than the first. And you need to learn the place value of zeros:  ONE MILLION DOLLARS??????  The following link will provide the correct information with a copy of the court case that was filed by the SIKH SANGAT Candidates and those associated with them suing the Sikh Religious Society of Chicago Gurdwara Sahib and their board.  So, how can the Sikh Sangat Candidates who claim to be so honest and pious lie so blatantly?  Did they forget all court suits are public record? Do they think that the Gurdwara Sangat is easily fooled? Please click here to see the case which trapped the Gurdwara Sahib into having to defend itself and the sangat members from the Sikh Sangat Candidates and their unsikhi like conduct.  The money that was spent by the Gurdwara Sahib and its management was done with the approval of the SRS of Chicago Sangat Members in order to fight the case which was filed by the Sikh Sangat Candidates in 2010.

“In the last many months an effort was made by Conflict Resolution Committee to find an amicable solution. The proposed solution was agreed upon and recanted by the Panthic Management at the last moment at least three times.”

The Sikh Sangat Committee had asked the SRS of Chicago Gurdwara Management for the resignation of the entire board so that the Sikh Sangat Committee could then create/erect a board with members of its choice.  In return they would cancel/redact the lawsuit they had filed against the Gurdwara Shaib and its board members.  There was no proof or agreement to sign paperwork that the Sikh Sangat Candidates/Committee would follow through with this offer.  There was no agreement reached in which the Sikh Sangat Committee/Candidates would sign any paperwork to end the lawsuit they filed.  In essence, the SRS of Chicago Board Members were asked to put hand over control of the SRS Gurdwara and its Sangat to a fate that was not known.  How could a responsible Sikh throw the Gurdwara and its members away without even having any validation/proof that the lawsuit would be redacted?  As far as we know, the board would have been in the control of the Sikh Sangat Committee AND the lawsuit would still be leaching money from the Gurdwara.

“Sikh Sangat is not at all interested in gaining control of SRS Management. Our sincere wish and resolve is to put an end to group politics.”

The above paragraph shows how motivated the Sikh Sangat Committee is in doing exactly that.  They will attempt to try to fool members of the SRS of Chicago, take them and the Gurdwara Sahib to court, and stop at nothing to take control of the Gurdwara.  It seems that control is the end goal.

“Remaining true to their chameleon colors SRS Management played all tricks to prevent S. Irwinpreet Singh and S. Bhupinder Singh from becoming candidates for 2012 SRS Elections.”

Another lie.  I have heard the saying that, “a Sikh does not lie, he would rather die”.  But it seems not everyone has heard nor abides by this saying.  There was no trick involved.  It is very simple.  Irvinpreet Singh and Bhupinder Singh (Hundal) were not eligible to become candidates due to the fact that they were not members since 2010.  Bhupinder Singh Hundal's membership was canceled because he refused to hand over Gurdwara Sahibs records to the Gurdwara Board, while Irvinpreet Singh’s membership was canceled for the disturbance and demonstrations he propagated in 2010.  Both Irvinpreet Singh and Bhupinder Singh (Hundal) were asked to apologize to the sangat and submit in writing that the records were not in Bhupinder Singh’s possession and that Irvinpreet Singh would not cause any more disturbances in the Gurdwara Sahib.  If these were to be submitted to the sangat, then no membership would be canceled.  NONE OF THEM SUBMITTED AN AFFIDAVIT TO THE SANGAT.  INFACT, BHUPINDER SINGH (HUNDAL) DECIDED TO SUBMIT ONE  WITH A COURT CASE WHICH COST THE GURDWARA SAHIB $20,000 TO DEFEND ITSELF AGAINST HIS LAWSUIT AGAINST THE GURDWARA!!! AND LATELY THE VALUABLE PIECE OR SRS RECORD WAS PRODUCED BY HIM TO THE ATTORNEY>>>>> Interestingly, the SRS Constitution has a remedy for such an event.  The members are to appeal the loss of membership to the CIC committee.  NEITHER FOLLOWED THE SRS CONSTITUTION, RATHER THEY WENT TO COURT AND SPENT MORE MONEY TO PUT THEIR NAMES ON THE BALLOT.

“Only when Court ordered the Management to put their names on the ballot did the Management come to their senses and put their names on the ballot.”

The management put the names of these NONMEMBERS after speaking with the judge to avoid anymore expenditure from the Sadh Sangat of SRS of Chicago.  Again, the answer above has all the information on how this transpired.

“they have created a fraudulent membership and have denied membership to hundreds of old SRS members thru their various nefarious tricks.”

Odd, the Sikh Sangat Candidates forget to mention that their lawyer has obtained the membership list.  Both their lawyer and the defending Gurdwara lawyer have gone through the list with a fine comb and validated that there are NO FRAUDULENT MEMBERSHIPS!  They found nothing of this nature.  This was simply an attempt to stop elections and keep the Gurdwara Sahib in court.  It has been ruled by the judge that the current list which has been validated and confirmed as being correct (current membership list) will be used and there will be elections held.  This was the order of the judge. Interestingly though, Buphinder Singh Hundal handed over to the lawyer of Sikh Sangat Candidates the records that he told the SRS Board he did not have in his possession.  This was found in the deposition of Harjit Singh Chawla, who stated he had nothing, but then later testified that one register of minutes was given to Bhupinder Singh (Hundal).  IT WAS AT THIS POINT THAT BHUPINDER SINGH turned over the records to the lawyer.  So who lies?  Who created this chaos?  Who is wasting the Gurdwara Sangat’s donations? It is obvious, the Sikh Sangat Association/Committee/Candidates.

“Sikh Sangat is determined to restore dignity, civility, unity, harmony and goodwill in our holy place.”

How will Sikh Sangat Candidates restore dignity, civility, unity, harmony and goodwill if they are the cause of the disturbance?  How will they fix things if they are the ones suing the Gurdwara Sahib?   Are they saying that if you don’t vote for us we will continue to take the Gurdwara to court???????

Wheaton Gurdwara Program Time Change for 11/30/2011

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa,Waheguru ji ki fateh,

Sangat is requested to attend the regular Wednesday  program tomorrow - November 30th, at Wheaton Gurdwara Sahib. The program will begin at 6pm instead of 6.30pm as we join the Bedi family to pray for the departed soul of Mandeep Singh Bedi, 23 years old ,who became a victim of horrible road rage incident on 19th August, and left his earthly life on 25th August. This is a collective effort to ask the police to find the offender who fled the scene after running over Mandeep. While we are trying to follow our scriptures "Sweet is Thy Will",community's voice, along with ABC 7 's help in airing the news might make the police take some action to find the offender for the sake of bringing some closure to the family and community. It is also important for the public to know that there is justice available to one and all.

Sangat is therefore humbly requested to join the family and collectively help the family as "one voice".

      Happy Bandi Chhorh Divas!

      What is Bandi Chhorh Divas?
Bandi Chorh Diwas and Diwali are separate festivals and the events actually fall on different days; however, commonly in the popular calendars, they are celebrated on the same day. For this reason, many people often think of these events as if they are the same. In real terms, the day of release of the sixth Guru with the 52 rajahs (kings) was actually a few days before Diwali in 1619.

These two celebrations represent two quite different events in history. On Bandi Chorh Diwas, the long imprisoned Guru Hargobind was released from Gwalior, taking with him 52 long imprisoned Rajas, whose release was a result of the Guru's wit.

Diwali (a Hindu festival) was being celebrated on the day when the Guru reached Amritsar. On the arrival of the Guru in Amritsar, the people lit up the whole city with thousands of candles, lights and lamps like they had never done before; there was much celebration and joy.

Bandi Chorh Diwas falls on the night of Amavas in the month of Assu; this actual Bandi Chorh Diwas is celebrated each year at Gurdwara Data Bandi Chor Sahib, Gwalior with much gaiety and joy, a few days before Diwali.
The occasion of Bandi Chhor Divas first took place in autumn of 1619 and is currently celebrated in October or November; the date changes according to the lunar calendar. Guru Hargobind’s father, Guru Arjan Dev, had been martyred almost 13 years before, and the Mughal authorities were carefully watching the young Guru. When he constructed the Akal Takht, the Throne of the Almighty, in Amritsar and concurrently strengthened his army, the Nawab of Lahore, Murtaja Khan, grew alarmed and informed the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. The Nawab conveyed his fear that the Guru might be planning to avenge the death of his father. Jahangir at once sent Wazir Khan and Guncha Beg to Amritsar to arrest Guru Hargobind.

Wazir Khan, however, was an admirer of the Guru; instead of arresting him, he persuaded the Guru to accompany them to Delhi to meet the Emperor. Even though Jahangir had ordered the execution of his father, the Guru accepted the invitation and journeyed to the Emperor’s court. When Emperor Jahangir met the young Guru, he was captivated by his charm and purity of spirit. He queried him as to which religion was better, Hindu or Muslim, to which the Guru quoted lines from Kabir proclaiming that the One Lord is within both Hindus and Muslims. The Emperor was entranced by the Guru’s wisdom and prepared a royal reception for him, after which he invited the young Hargobind to accompany him on his shikars or hunting expeditions.

During one of these hunts, the Emperor and his party were tracking a lion which had been terrorizing a village. Without warning, the lion burst from the bushes and charged at Jahangir. Desperately, the other hunters fired their weapons but failed to stop its attack. At the last moment, Guru Hargobind jumped in front of the beast, yelling that it must deal with him first. Raising his shield to deflect its jaws, as it leapt in the air he thrust his sword into it, killing it with one powerful stroke. The animal fell dead at his feet. Guru Hargobind had saved the Emperor’s life.

The Guru and the Emperor became good friends, but this only provoked the jealousy of others who wanted the Emperor’s favor for themselves. One of these was Chandu Shah, a rich banker, with influence in the court. After first rejecting Hargobind as a match for his daughter, he later changed his mind and sought the arrangement. Having learned of his previous remarks, Guru Arjan Dev refused the proposal. Chandu Shah had been influential in arranging Guru Arjan’s death and now focused his wrath on his son, Guru Hargobind.

While in Agra, the Emperor became very ill. It seemed that nothing could cure him. Chandu Shah cornered the court astrologers and convinced them to tell the Emperor that his illness was due to an inauspicious alignment of the stars which could only be cured if a holy man were to go to Gwalior Fort south of Agra and offer prayers for his recovery. Chandu Shah innocently suggested that there was no one more fit for this precious task than Guru Hargobind. Thus, at the Emperor’s request, the Guru agreed and left for the Fort with several companions.

Rather than being a sanctuary of tranquility, Gwalior Fort was really a prison where enemies of the state, including a number of Rajput princes, were detained. True to his nature, the Guru inspired them to join him in daily prayers and did his best to improve their conditions. In time they came to revere him. The governor of the fort, Hari Dass, was a Sikh of the Guru and turned over to him a letter from Chandu Shah ordering him to poison the Guru.

After the Guru had been in Gwalior Fort for several months, his Sikhs, including the ancient Baba Buddha, made the long journey from Amritsar to tell him how greatly they missed his presence. Although the Emperor had recovered, still the Guru was held captive. At this time, Mian Mir, a noted Sufi saint, traveled to the Emperor’s court and asked him to release the Guru. Upon his persuasion, the Emperor ordered Wazir Khan to free the Guru. Hari Dass informed the Guru of this fortunate turn of events; however, the Guru could not embrace his own fortune at the expense of the other prisoners and refused to leave the fort until all 52 of the Rajput princes were freed as well. When the Wazir Khan put the Guru’s condition in front of the Emperor, he initially refused it. It was only when the Wazir Khan reminded the Emperor that the Guru had saved his life that he relented. He added a condition of his own: in order to be released from the fort, each prisoner must be holding on to the Guru’s cloak as he walked out of the prison gates. The Emperor was pleased with himself because he was sure that a mere handful would be able to fulfill this condition.

Unbeknownst to him however, the Guru delighted in this challenge by having his tailor make a special cloak with a very, very long train to which were tightly attached 52 tassels. At the appointed time, the Guru donned the heavy cloak and his friends laid out the train, which stretched for yards behind him. The 52 princes picked the cloak up and grasped their tassels; 26 on the right and 26 on the left. Walking behind the Guru, careful not to let go, they stepped out into the sunlight and freedom, to the cheers of the Guru’s Sikhs. From this time on, Guru Hargobind was known as Bandi (prison) Chhor (liberator), and the day of liberation is celebrated as Bandi Chhor Divas (day).

Several days later, when Guru Hargobind reached Amritsar, the Hindu festival of light, Divali, was being celebrated. In their joy at seeing their Guru again, the people lit up the whole city with candles, lights, and lamps. After almost four hundred years this tradition continues in Amritsar, and on this day the Harimandir Sahib is aglow with thousands of candles and floating lamps, strings of lights decorate the domes, and fireworks burst in the sky.  Elsewhere, at Gurdwara Sahib Guru Nanak Dwara in Phoenix and around the world, Sikhs commemorate Bandi Chhor Divas, Prisoner Release Day, by lighting hundreds of candles in the evening around the Gurdwara, singing shabds in praise of Guru Hargobind by Bhai Gurdas, preparing a festive Guru ka Langar, and basking in the spirit of joy and festivity.

The Sikhs celebrated the return of Guru HarGobind Sahib Ji by lighting the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) and this tradition continues today.

Another Sikh History Chapter associated with
      Bandi Chorh Divas:

Martyrdom of Bhai Mani Singh Ji and
Bandi Chorh Divas:   An important Sikh event associated with Bandi Chorh Divas is the martyrdom of the elderly Sikh scholar and strategist Bhai Mani Singh Ji in 1737. Bhai Mani Singh was the Granthi (keeper/reader of Sikh scripture) of Harmandir Sahib (popularly known as the Golden Temple). He transcribed the final version of Guru Granth Sahib Ji dictated to him by Guru Gobind Singh in 1704. Bhai Mani Singh assumed charge of Harmandir Sahib's management in 1708. In 1737, he received permission from Zakariya Khan, the then Mughal governor of Punjab, to hold a religious gathering of the Khalsa for celebrating Bandi Chhorh Diwas on the auspicious for a large tax of 5000 Rupees. He expected to put together the required sum from contributions made by the Sikhs who would assemble that day. But on discovering Zakariya Khan's plot to kill the Sikhs during the gathering, he sent out messages warning them not to turn up for the meeting. As a result the tax could not be paid and Zakariya Khan ordered Bhai Mani Singh's execution at Lahore. It is also believed that this event, along with other Sikh martyrdoms, gave further momentum to the Khalsa struggle for freedom and eventual success in establishing the Khalsa Rule in the north of Delhi.

       Uprising against the Mughal Empire:

      The festival of
Bandi Chorh Divas became the second most important day after the Vaisakhi, when Khalsa was formally established by the Tenth Guru Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699. The Sikh struggle against Mughal Empire's atrocities on non-Muslims, especially on Sikhs, which intensified in the 18th century, came to be centered around Bandi Chorh Divas. After the execution of Banda Singh Bahadur in 1716, who had led the agrarian uprising in Punjab, the Sikhs started the tradition of deciding matters concerning the community at the biennial meetings which took place at Amritsar on the first of Baisakh/Vaisakh and at Bandi Chorh Divas. These assemblies were known as the Sarbat Khalsa and a resolution passed by it became a Gurmatta (decree of the Guru).

So please come and celebrate rich Sikh history with festival of lights.

      Sangat De Sewadaars,

      SRS Managements Members

NOTE: the word 'Diwali' was removed by the site administrator because the Sikh holiday is called Bandi Chorh Divas.  All words 'divali' were replaced with 'Bandi Chorh Divas' so that the Sikh holiday is remembered by it's authentic name/historical name.

      A Community Member Speaks Out

      S. Gurdev Singh has been writing articles on the situation that has been thrusted upon the sangat of the Sikh Rekigious Society of Palatine by the anti Sikhi and anti-Panthic law suit brought by the Sikh Sangat Integrity Assocciation (SSIA).  The SikhSangatOfChicago.com website will post Veer Ji's thoughts in a regular segment in the "Sangat's Voice" tab on this site.  It can also be reached via kicking the following link: Sangat's Voice.

A Discovery by a Member of the Sadh Sangat

It seems as the few that had started SikhSangatChicago.org have resurfaced under the following web address: chicagosikhsangat.com/wordpress/.  The following may help shed light as to who may be involved with the Sikh Sangat Integrity Association that is willing to sue the SRS Gurdwara Sahib without any thought of what this would do to the Sikh Sangat of the Chicagoland.

      Integrity is defined as:
      1. Steadfast adherence to a strict moral or ethical code.
      2. The state of being unimpaired; completeness
      3. The quality or condition of being whole or undivided; completeness.

It seems that the Sikh Sangat 'Integrity' Association (which is not registered in the state of IL nor has its spearheads given names of individuals that make the governing board of this phantom organization) has done everything opposite of that which warrants integrity. It has made it a mission to part with the moral and ethical code of Sikhi while acting in a very partial and impaired manner which has done nothing short of dividing the Chicago Sikh Panth by it's malice actions.

The following is information from the chciagosikhsangat.com/wordpress/ site which consists of the same people who launched sikhsangatchicago.org and are currently supporting and behind the lawsuit against the Chicago Guru Ghar under the name of the SSIA (sikh sangat integrity association).
